6. How to store oils and liquid fuels?

Kerosene products' warehouses should ensure fire safety and meet the Occupational Safety and Hygiene requirements. The method of storing kerosene products should ensure their functional properties being preserved even after a long period of used.

The main store in a plant should secure the stock of lubricants for at least 1 month or have logistic capacity to provide lubricants on a continuous basis. Lubricant for current operating needs should be stored in storerooms.

Storing premises should be:

  • made of refractory and non-sparking materials,
  • separated from other premises with metal, air-tight doors,
  • equipped with serviceable ventilation devices,
  • equipped with equipment maintaining fixed temperature and minimum air humidity,
  • equipped with electrical equipment and installations with anti-explosive fabrication,
  • equipped with fire-fighting equipment,
  • equipped with a loading-unloading platform or/and self-driven lift-truck,
  • equipped with in-house transport devices,
  • equipped with tools for opening packages,
  • equipped with tanks for agents for cleaning containers,
  • equipped with tanks for storing fuels and lubricants,
  • equipped with pumps, scales and flow and measuring vessels for measuring the amount of released lubricants, a principle should be adopted that each flow and measuring vessel should be used for specific oil type.

Large amounts of liquid fuels and service fluids should be stored in ground tanks, underground tanks and partly deepened tanks equipped with fire protection and distribution equipment.

Smaller amounts of oils and plastic lubricants are usually stored in vessels with smaller volume, used also as transport packages. The shelving life of kerosene products for various kerosene products and tanks differs.

Complicated store management notions and other elements of the lubricant management system can be commissioned on the basis of outsourcing to an external company, e.g. Ecol.
